Movement as Medicine
Wherever you are in the world, I am sending peace that you feel safe right now. The past two years have been an emotionally exhausting time for so many with giant swings of sadness, fear, anxiety, and overwhelm. For me as a public school teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District, I have felt burnout in ways that I have never experienced before. Having a way to hold space for yourself to be with all your emotions and to move through them is so important. Giving yourself moments to breathe, stretch, dance, run, cry, sigh, wiggle, shake, or any movement of choice is incredibly powerful. Please reach out to a health care professional if you need more individualized support. You are never alone.
How can movement help? Moving your body has a wonderful ripple effect of allowing you to find your breath again and the present moment. When we find ourselves stuck in our heads we can easily spiral into places that are unhealthy mentally or emotionally. It can feel as though the world is literally falling apart. Something I teach often in yoga retreats is grounding back into your body through movement and breath. This anchors your mind and calms your nervous system. I created a 10-minute movement class combining yoga, Pilates, and cardio intervals to get you sweating. Let’s keep moving and breathing our way back into the now!
Love and gratitude, Nicole xoxo
